A great proposal by @moira.bsky.social Birss about how to deal with the climate-induced insurance crisis. The latest from @gamechangerspolicy.bsky.social

Moira Birss

Climate change-fueled disasters threaten the safety of our homes & insurance provides a financial safety net to help us recover. But current insurance systems are failing, leaving households high (& not dry). What can the federal government do? I've got a proposal: peri.umass.edu/publication/...

And finally, shouldn't decent housing be a human right? It is, in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Let's make it real. We've been waiting about 75 years. This one is great.

Here's the proposal from @aldasky.bsky.social, Maddison Wells, and myself on how we can eliminate housing and energy insecurity immediately for millions of people while also driving deep residential decarbonization for the climate. It's win-win-win policy for people, planet, and faith in government.

This is a long-term project. Obviously the socialist movement doesn't have the necessary social base yet to be capable of ending capitalism. Building that will take decades. In the meantime we bond and work with these groups to defeat authoritarian nationalism by consolidating green social democracy

• the working class • racial, ethnic, and other oppressed minorities • women • youth • environmental activists • peace activists These are the constituencies that must be organized to achieve socialism. Together they represent the vast majority of the population ✊
