I liked it until the end

I didn’t like that she had to change for them to stay together but I can see that

I would have probably liked it as a kid and my 6 year old thought it was pretty good but I don’t like the ending

I’ve had several people suggest I read Mike Mulligan and His Steam Shovel to my kids and I finally did and WHAT. THE. HELL. Who thought I would like a book where the main characters dig themselves into a hole and then they decide to stay in the basement as like a tomb and the shovel comes a boiler?

Yeah it’s the way this is written as if there is no need to validate anything because it’s intrinsically better than human mapping, not the techniques themselves that bug me.

Why didn’t the machine learning expert aerospace engineering professor they were working with help them? Or one of their grad students? If they lacked enough knowledge for those people to help them, then I dare say they probably shouldn’t be doing ML in the first place.

And get a PhD out of it!

It won’t. As long as we don’t see a huge drop in metal prices or we stop needing manganese for batteries, they will be able to make that money back, but if they keep pushing steel prices higher it’s going to make it more difficult for projects across the board.

They also will be using all battery-electric mining equipment and it will be some combination of automated, semi-autonomous, and remotely controlled.

They will be dry stacking their tailings and recycling their process water to help reduce the amount of water needed. It looks like steel prices have increased 2.5 times and piping and concrete cost have doubled what they originally planned for in 2024 😬 Targeted to start production in early 2028
