Anyway, I try to avoid absolutes and acknowledge the great complexity of whatever I’m writing about in posts because people get nitpicky and/ personally affronted in ways that are perhaps a commentary on the shitty times in which we live, but 300 chars ain’t a lot, folks.

Love when an innocuous 300 char post that could not possibly contain the full breadth of subtlety and exploration even the most mundane aspects of life possess is accused of intentionally eschewing that exploration and endorsing every element, good or bad, housed within the subjects of that post.

Weird Al and Dolly Parton are different aspects of the same ethos. Both are prolific, great, genre-defining musicians iconic for intentionally playful, exaggerated personas but universally loved for their authenticity (& kindness). All while working for decades AND maintaining a sense of privacy.

I know a lot of incidental interactions with strangers in public have been particularly garbage the last few years for Reasons(tm), but I've had several positive moments of people being kind and helpful in mundane ways lately, and recognizing and acknowledging that's been helpful for me.

Normally I just google stuff, but it's such an exercise in frustration now because a handful of rich assholes decided to make the world worse.

What a wonderful thing it is, to be curious and kind.

The sweet old lady across the street died last year. The people who bought the house are remodeling it, not tearing down. I've been happy to see the beautiful tree in her yard remain -- like a lovely memorial, in a way. They tore out the tree today. So many things, every day, a little bit worse.

It's interesting reading online discourse about a show before you've watched it because the erosion of skills wrt critical thinking/understanding of narrative is really stark when you DO watch it and realize all the earnest questions/interpretations/debates are about very clearly answered points.

Hey, so for those who've watched Widow's Bay, is it a show that one enjoys right off the bat or is it more of a slow burn of "this is great"? No spoilers please.

I remember the golden age of indie coffee shops when I was living in San Francisco. I don't drink coffee, but I do yearn for those spaces. This feeling/phenomenon has, obviously, extended across all public spaces/businesses, too. Such a hollow time, this. But I do see attempts at correction.
