Truly Emma was too good for that excuse of a man.

Like "oh, this is just doing a roux with extra steps." "Huh, they're just doing a wine reduction sauce with a nonalcoholic substitution." "Ohhhh, this was intended to use peanuts and they're faking them."

I mean... Grape jelly, the chili sauce (with a vinegar base) and the butter... This is just a (really weird) red wine reduction shortcut.

And because I know some people will ask this: I frequently tell them "the reason I'm not going to try and convince you anyone is the bad guy isn't because I don't believe there are bad guys. It's because I believe your education prepared you to identify them on your own if you are just told enough."

They definitely form strong opinions (often carrying in some), but it's really nice to see them ask questions, probe our political system, and leave the table feeling like they understand enough to talk with their friends about things in the news.

Also, it's worth discussing how weird the D/R lines in Kentucky are. Only twice in the last fifty years have they voted for a Democrat president, but the same is true for how many times they voted for a Republican governor. Same voters. It's a very weird state for predicting crossing party lines.

They're worried about losing the majority in Congress, and Kentucky is currently doing well under a Democrat governor. McConnell held his seat for so long because he was REALLY good at porkbarreling in federal money. There's plenty more than enough Democrats to make his seat less certain.

Now that the law in Kentucky allowing a special election has run out of time, I expect sometime in the next few days for them to actually announce his status. The shit is ghoulish, to be sure.

Until yesterday, any admission would have risked a special election being called to replace him. When you hold the majority, missing vote is preferable to an uncertain one. Especially because anyone who performed well in the special election benefits from voter trust during the general election.

(In the cases above people tend to put Scientific before Fact to emphasize it is somehow a more "real" fact, and Religious before Faith to emphasize it is somehow as "less rational" faith.)

Like, I know difficulty levels are both highly subjective and very contextual, but if the impressions are that wide, it's probably best not to label any difficulty and instead just talk about specific features in your article.

Okay, we're taking a walk as I assign numbers to the rocks they collect and ask them to do proportions.

The reason I am telling you this is because my life is full of watching people who either haven't considered if their communication matches their goals... or who convince themselves when the outcomes don't match expectations, that's the audience's fault. It's not. It's yours. You built a bad theory.

You could spend some time unpacking how horrible you feel going from an in-group to an out-group and realizing you were indoctrinated and coerced to defend a horrible orthodoxy. You could do that instead. Brown people, poor people, queer people would all really prefer you do that instead.

The moral of the story: Don't use your trauma as an excuse for why the trauma you create for others is permissible. A key element in cyclical abuse is the way that victims repeat patterns they have learned to victimize others while still seeing themselves as victims.

Yeah... It's a lot and you (or me at least) don't walk away with great feelings about any of the people in it with the possible exception of Emma. Great movie, but absolutely beats you up in the watching.
