Today the Senate is set to take its first votes on the Lindsey Graham Sanctioning Russia Act. With 84 cosponsors it's expected to move fast and pass. Unfortunately, it's a bad bill that is unlikely to achieve its stated goals. The bill has 3 major flaws, if you read closely- 🧵

Well hello again, like the House of Representatives, I am also back today. In catching up I see that we've had just 11 voting days here going back to May 21, which given that the Republicans have a trifecta and June/July is normally the busiest time of the year here, is impressively bad!

Democrats just defeated this bill, then Republicans pulled the War Powers Resolution vote on Iran because they didn't have the votes to defeat it. The measure is privileged in a way that requires it be brought up within a certain number of days, I *think* that will mean it comes back in early June.

The delay here is bc Republicans are unexpectedly losing the vote before the Iran resolution, on a bill to establish the Smithsonian American Women’s History Museum, which Dems are opposing because R's rewrote a popular bipartisan version to add rightwing poison pills.
