I still find asking for membership difficult. But shared support keeps my independent work alive, the Genius Loci Digest free, and free photography available to heritage places and craftspeople. If you've found value in my work, I'd be grateful for your support 👉 www.digest.andymarsh...

I press the shutter button, but these photographs are made by members. Without their support, the free shoots at churches, skilled crafts and historic buildings would not exist. Can you help support me and create the next image? See what membership makes possible - www.digest.andymarsh...

A glimpse of the early C16th Number 1 Myddylton Place, Saffron Walden, where history is written into the walls. Look closely for the 👻 ghost of a medieval shopfront hidden in plain sight—a time capsule revealing secrets from centuries ago.

Every now and then you stumble across a tiny building that makes you smile. This place in Richmond had me wondering whether hobbits had settled in North Yorkshire.

✨ What is the Genius Loci Digest? I believe certain places still have the power to change the way we see the world. That's why I created the Genius Loci Digest. If you've ever wondered what it's all about, this is the best place to begin. 👉 www.digest.andymarsh...

A church that stayed the same for twenty years became the measure of my own life. This week's Genius Loci Digest is about continuity, self-doubt, photography and the unexpected comfort of places that remain unchanged in a fast-paced world. Read here: www.digest.andymarsh...

I was 'caught by the vernaculars' in Melbourne, Derbyshire - particularly this delightfully playful thatched roof.

Over at the church of St. Mary and St. Barlok, Norbury, the alabaster form of Ralph Fitzherbert lies in repose with legs rested on a lion - but, quite endearingly - his toes are further alleviated from their eternal repose, by a tiny homunculus-like figure of a man with rosary in hand.

✨ Want to experience time travel? Visit the hidden gem of St Mary and St Barlok, Norbury. Early C14th glass, from both sides, still fills the chancel with the same light that has bathed this space for around 700 yrs. A continuity of light that takes you back as soon as you enter. ✨

Pennine mudlarking: deep in an untouched valley, the brook gives up hidden treasures: broken plates, bottles and fragments of a vanished community. See what I found and step into this amazing place 👉 www.digest.andymarsh...

Every so often my work takes me somewhere few people get to see. This hidden medieval room in York became the starting point for a journey through the city’s snickelways - and a search for the spirit of place. www.digest.andymarsh...
