Well, they’re getting trampled pretty good here too now, so I’m not patting ourselves on the back. But yeah, as a general principle, I think having some rights enshrined in clear language is valuable.

Indeed. There are pros and cons to that! As frustrated (infuriated, really) as I am with our current predicament, having lived in the UK there are benefits to that and some downsides as well…

That said, I don’t think the DSA has the first idea how to get there and is incredibly naive about working political realities here.

I mean, I think a parliamentary system is generally a better guard against authoritarianism than our system. I think even smarter Americans have known that for a while. Look at the governments we’ve set up or encouraged abroad. We didn’t set up things as convoluted as our own system in Tokyo.

I think it’s because they’re saying it’s a financial market. Like a state can’t just ban stock trading. (I’m not saying I agree with this decision at all but I think that’s the main thrust of it.)
