I learned about this when I was behind the chair. The salons I worked in wanted the stylists to be walking advertisements but also complained if we did each other’s hair during work hours, even when it was slow. They wanted us to come in on our off days & nickel & dimed us about using products.

There’s also the element of curiosity at work: nerds care about attaining knowledge. Learning their partner’s body & how to elicit a specific response is rewarding to minds like that.
