CNN's Manu Raju spent days asking high-profile Republicans about Trump's Truth Social selling Wall Street firms faster access to his often market-moving posts, letting traders cash in on his words before everyone else. Most of them suddenly went blind and deaf. House Speaker Mike Johnson claimed it was "the first I've heard of that" and had no opinion. Rand Paul said he "can't comment" and knew nothing. Nancy Mace shrugged off Trump doubling his billions as maybe just "a high-yield savings account." Then Raju got to John Cornyn, and the wall cracked. Cornyn acknowledged straight out that Trump's business dealings "raise some questions about conflicts of interest." When Raju pressed whether Congress should actually look into it, Cornyn did not dodge. "Yes," he said. "I suspect that we will do that." It is worth noting Cornyn is now a lame duck after losing his primary to a Trump-backed challenger, which may be exactly why he felt free to say the quiet part out loud while his colleagues stared at their shoes.
