This is a 1,600 bed facility, so it will instantly become one of ICE's largest facilities. It will also be one of (if not the actual) largest ICE jail/prison in the midwest.

ICE, deportations, border crossings. In this era, that's what dominates the news when it comes to immigration policy. But the laws governing who can come, stay, work, and become American are just as broken. @felipedlh.bsky.social with the latest installment in our Repairing America series.

The Trump admin's latest strategy to mass generate removal orders is diabolical: - Take a huge group of people with hearings scheduled in late 2026, 2027, or 2028. - Send them a physical letter rescheduling all of their cases to next week. - Those who inevitably miss court get ordered deported.

A new New York law creates a pathway for people to file civil lawsuits against federal agents. “This is one of the things I am more proud of in my eight years here in the state Senate because of what the implications are,” says one of the bill’s sponsors.

I think the reason people like French flip out about judicial reform is that the argument for a SCOTUS dictatorship--which underpins the whole elite law juristocracy--does not bear a second's scrutiny. "our Ivy League Guardian Council must rule by decree, or the republic is finished" is dumb

I have a piece in the NYT today arguing that the law should permit victims of ICE abuse to sue not just individual officers, but supervisors and policymakers like Stephen Miller and Gregory Bovino. A Democratic president and Congress could do this in 2029. And they could make it retroactive.
