I think the looming oil shock and the fact that there haven't seen a ground invasion have lulled us into a false sense of security that the war with Iran will be brief and self contained. We're now waking up to the possibility this continues to grow and drag in more parties to this conflict

my read is that the trump admin is doing this bc saudi arabia is fucking pissed at us and this keeps us in their good graces, but also they think maybe will scare iran into surrendering? idk but they seem to think bombing them more will fix things so I can see it making sense to them
