People give Metal Gear Solid a hard time because of its long-ass cutscenes, but its gameplay (boss fights in particular) are very good at reinforcing the narrative. Like the fight with The Sorrow in MGS3 where you have to face every enemy you killed up to that point.

Would agree if the gameplay was 100% traversal puzzles. But Last of Us has the semi-open areas that you can navigate with combat/stealth. These are really important in conveying the narrative in the games. The sequence where you play as Ellie is so effective at remixing the combat for that.

On one hand, the castings did seem to be part of the marketing strategy for the movie. There were several articles about it a couple months ago. On the other hand, the articles didn’t disclose what roles they were playing, implying that they would be small.

Many such cases I suspect.
