Besides all this, I've just learned that ABC made a motion at the public hearing to extend to hear all the speakers that ALSO specified that the staff response should be heard at the end of the night, rather than at the beginning of the decisiion day. So their presentation was at 1 in the morning.

You could be right. When the city lawyer was explaining it in first day of the public hearing, sounded to me like it wasn't just commercial, also applied to any lot where greater density was being zoned in.

I'm guessing for one "not enough affordability" and, for the other, "destroying our leafy green neighbourhoods with, gasp, six-storey "towers."

I've gotta say -- I feel for voters who have to try to figure out what it is ABC will stand for in the next term, when they are cancelling their own previous initiatives. Is this full-scale retreat going to carry on past election day? Or will a new ABC personality emerge Oct..18?

The plan also could easily have been amended to remove the controversial limitation that, if a single-detached site was in the village zone, it could ONLY be rebuilt at some kind of higher density. Didn't have to cancel the whole plan to provide choice.

It sounded to me like people at the 54th/Kerr intersection would have like to see a bit more retail and density around that one shopping centre they have in Vancouver's SE corner. Another group of residents actually petitioned to be included in their nearby village.

This is such a short-sighted, knee-jerk response, trying to shore up support with key voter pools in advance of the election. You're being played, my fellow residents. Personally, I'd have liked to see at least some of them move forward where residents were somewhat on board

Now the latest speaker and translator are getting a lot of questions about why all these people are calling in from California

I mean, I’ve had my own questions about some aspects of the villages plan, but what I’m listening to makes me think that some kind of very large advocacy network has descended on Vancouver as part of an intentional push to fight all city efforts to densify

And the latest person is a Spanish speaker from California

All the speakers I’ve heard so far are not from the city. They all sound relatively young, 20s/30s. This has clearly become some kind popular political cause du jour
