And you're absolutely sure that we can't just make it illegal for random people to pick up military-grade assault rifles? Because this is kind of an insanely stupid Plan B. bsky.app/profile/wash...

Some schools in Florida, Georgia and Colorado will be equipped with drones this year that can go through halls, smash windows and pepper-spray active shooters if teachers report a threat. The program follows a wave of high-tech campus security spending. https://wapo.st/4gVNMXn

First it was the writing center, now Dudley House. This was the place where people like married veterans & other students who had reasons to live off campus found community at Harvard. I refuse to believe this was extremely costly. www.thecrimson.com/article/2026...

Every attempt to obtain state voter data listed here failed because (i) attorneys challenged them in court and (ii) a federal judge was willing to rule against Trump's attempt to subvert democracy. Resistance to fascist consolidation by courts is unusual - be proud of this bsky.app/profile/marc...

Embracing their niche enabling every sketchy or speculative financial transaction that poorly informed rubes might want to make has worked out really well for Robin Hood. www.reuters.com/business/fin...

It is darkly hilarious that the Economist asks whether we should be afraid of Elon Musk in an article that avoids mentioning the actual reasons why we should in fact be very afraid of him - he is casually using the world's largest private fortune to promote Nazism. www.economist.com/leaders/2026...

I wish that I knew someone working on derivatives markets, because I would like to understand why oil futures markets have, seemingly, been so mispriced since February and why they have responded so directly to what researchers even call "cheap talk" by Trump about the war. bsky.app/profile/bgru...

Call it the Jack Welch effect. The transition from "managerial capitalism" to "finance capitalism" has had lots of perverse effects. And keep in mind that Welch *was* a genius - it's hard to judge a man's marksmanship if you don't know what he is aiming at. bsky.app/profile/goli...

i won't kid any kidders here and pretend that executives of the past (let's say, prior to like, 20 years ago) were geniuses, but it was sort of unusual to find people who just flat out didn't know shit about their workforce *or* business *or* industry sitting atop the c-suite as is often common now

Remember way back when exchanges & analysts were breaking their own rules to include this stock in market indices so that passively managed investment funds would be forced to buy it? Hope my former students remember the Brandeis' "Other People's Money" when they see this. bsky.app/profile/carl...
