Great news! The new MTG-S1 Infrared Sounder (IRS) level 1 pre-operational data is released today. The IRS instrument provides information on water vapour and temperature structures of the atmosphere, see full details: bit.ly/4pNOOqQ

What does one satellite look like from another's point of view? On 18 Jul we found out! MTG-S1 & Meteosat-12 share an orbital slot 36,000km up & sometimes cross paths. The IRS on MTG-S1 caught Meteosat-12 over Timbuktu, Mali. ⬇️ The image is low-res, but you see Meteosat-12's solar panels/antennas.

Also, this True Colour RGB shows the wider domain over the Iberian Peninsula for the period starting 22 July, plus smoke from both the Bordeaux fire (France) and the Vall d'Uixó fire (Castellón, Eastern Spain) is also clearly visible.

Loops of Met-12 FCI Fire Temperature RGB & Day Fire composite, produced by our colleagues at @aemet.es show the evolution of the wildfires in western Madrid, which originated in the province of Ávila, spreading across the valleys of the Sistema Central, and has burned over 50,000 hectares.
