My summer will be spent working on a new book. Still in the beginning stage, finished with sketching and deciding compositions, now on to color studies. There will be 25 plates in total (2 are finished). Trying to determine which colors work for the animals, and getting in a nice variation overall.

Finished this painting of killer whales! It was inspired by a meeting with these awesome predators in the north of Norway. Neither my scanner nor my camera were willing to cooperate in any meaningfull way, so this picture will have to do for now. 😅 Acrylics on board 21.6″ x 27.5″ (55 x 70 cm)

Just finished these three little paintings. Had such fun with this assignment of three snowy owls, a little triptych if you like. The commissioner met this wild snowy owl in person, and wanted that moment captured on canvas. :) Watercolor and colored pencil on pressed board 5.9" x 5.9" (15 x 15 cm)

Here is part 2 of the small scale drawings for an upcoming book about extinct animals. Scale drawings are depicted quite small on the pages of books, so I always have a bit of fun with these, creating small stories on their own. :) www.esthervanhulsen.com #SciArt #paleoart #paleoillustration
