I'm not trying to defend Walmart or Amazon. They are paying as little as they can. But the reason they can pay so little is that the minimum wage hasn't been updated enough. We can (and should!) expand access to Medicaid and also raise the Federal minimum wage.

I don't mean to argue but the article implies that near-poverty (accounting for family size) is required for Medicaid. Is that just wrong? Seems like a central assertion the article is making.

It seems a third obvious implication is that we should raise the minimum wage to lift these people out of poverty?
