I previously worked at a company that required me to give IT elevated permissions on my phone to check my work email. That was enough for me to remove the app. Which I honestly should have done well before that point.

Food safety always felt rather fragmented, the FDA cared more about drugs, the USDA cared more about food production, and state agencies were patchwork. Plus, paperwork was messy, I worked at a facility that did FDA and USDA regulations and had to have entirely separate forms for similar products

It's been about a decade since I worked in the food sector, but my impression then was that the food safety arm of the FDA received much less attention than the drug arm, so I'm far from surprised that there's been under investment into outbreak prevention.

I think that the two sectors described here also operate very differently. Medical technologies require a substantial amount of vetting and testing before being made available to the general public. Computer technologies are the equivalent of 19th century snake oil cures.
