3/5 The industrial achievement is real. China makes 70% of the world’s drones, E.V.s, lithium-ion batteries, and solar cells; deploys more industrial robots than the rest of the world combined; and has shipbuilding capacity 200 times America’s.

2/5 At a Beijing expo, a kiosk read my facial “micro-gestures” and found me 76.67% positive, with the rest divided between “fear” and “rage.” (Hard to argue.) Similar systems assign pupils risk levels; “Exposure Stations” post photos of those who sort their trash incorrectly.
