Interdisciplinary research training group investigating the functioning of pure & mixed beech/conifer forest ecosystems. @dfgpublic.bsky.social funded @unigoettingen based Website: https://www.uni-goettingen.de/en/574316.html

This month not 1, not 2 but 3 papers were published from Enrico's PhD students, bringing important insights from single tree- to forest ecosystem- level! Details in the comments:

New Enrico paper out about tree ecophysiology! By synthesizing sap flow and dendrometer measurements, we show that isohydric Douglas fir 🌲 experiences earlier drought-induced declines in stem water status than anisohydric beech 🌳 www.sciencedirect.com/science/arti...

New nutrients&roots paper out! 🌳🌲🧪 Douglas fir and beech saplings partition ammonium vs. nitrate under competition, enabling complementary N use and their coexistence in mixed stands. @mrakklara.bsky.social @bmwildermuth.bsky.social link.springer.com/article/10.1... #forestecol

Mineral nitrogen form preference, partitioning and root morphological traits of Douglas fir and European beech under intra—and interspecific competition in-situ - European Journal of Forest ResearchClimate change challenges forestry in temperate regions, with drought and insect infestations affecting major tree species. Introducing drought-tolerant non-native species into managed forests is a wi...link.springer.com

We have a new doctor! On Friday Thalea Stuckenberg from the #AnimalEcology Group successfully defended her PhD within the #EnriCo project about the effects of non-native Douglas fir on decomposers and their activity 🪱🦠🍂 Congrats!! 🥳 #phd #phddefence #unigoettingen

New!🌲💧 Water moves faster than nitrate from soil to canopy in mature trees, highlighting root, soil, and species traits. More on subsoil uptake by Douglas fir and beech here: onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/... @mrakklara.bsky.social @christina-hn.bsky.social @wileyonlinelibrary.bsky.social

Rainy day fieldwork just got significantly cuter (and tastier sounding!) 🐭! Micaela is out battling the soggy conditions today and looks like she's already found a star: the Edible Dormouse (glis glis)! Don't worry, we're just collecting data, not dinner🌧️ #EnriCo #EdibleDormouse

Our mini-conference "Complex models in a complex environment" was a huge success! We had the pleasure of welcoming researchers who offered a statistical and modeling-driven perspective on forests. A big thanks to all the speakers and attendees for a stimulating and insightful event! 🌳🌲📊 #EnriCo

We've officially done the real-deal fieldwork after tree climbing course @rschwutke.bsky.social and @kieuthuyquynh.bsky.social completed their very first tree climbing work after the training to collect leaves samples. It was a huge, upward-bound step for our research, and we're so ready for more!

It's official! Huge congratulations to @christina-hn.bsky.social on her successful PhD defense! Her research reveals crucial insights into how trees in mixed forests handle drought, tackling vital plant-water relationships for climate resilience🌳🌲💧 We're celebrating your amazing work, Dr. Hackmann!
