If you fancy something extremely French, this ticks a frankly incredible number of boxes for Frenchness, from farce to Molière, bureaucracy to extra-marital affairs. Its also very funny and silly 🇫🇷🇫🇷🇫🇷

10 days after it broke out, the wildfire in south-west France is 'fixé' (no longer spreading), although it will likely continue to burn for days or weeks. Absolutely heroic work from the firefighters, the majority of whom are part-time volunteers

Airbnb had already lost this in the local and appeal courts, but decided to appeal to 🇫🇷 Constitutional Council claiming that imposing large fines on internet rental platforms is somehow against the French constitution. The Conseil has now told them to fuck off
Loving this super fun, pan-European summer songs playlist, from the good people at @europeanspod.bsky.social 😎
Just in case you thought being wealthy and privileged would protect you from the climate crisis . . . (I'm sure George and Amal don't think this, to be clear)
The Associated PressGeorge Clooney says his family had to evacuate their French home as wildfire burned nearby.
The Talking France podcast is on its summer break, but we've done a special episode on the wildfires ravaging France and why French politicians are failing this 'trial by fire'
Wtf, who does this?! Very annoyed about my favourite swimming site being closed . . . "3,000 litres of heating oil, which probably came from the emptying of a tank, was simply dumped into a municipal drain"
Just ordered the new Pompiers calendar to, ahem, show my support for the heroic work of French firefighters this wildfire season . . . (Also donated to the actual fund that supports firefighters and those who have lost homes/businesses in the fires - www.thelocal.fr/20260727/don...)
This photo - by AFP's very talented Maximilien Lamy - seems destined to be the visual metaphor for humanity's refusal to tackle climate change. So here's a look at where and how it was taken, and whether the couple in the picture are what they seem. (Yes, the parasol advertises Pastis 51, peak 🇫🇷)

I'm sorry, but the French are correct on this one and service in Paris is better than it is in the UK www.thelocal.fr/20260725/ins...

When I first saw this I thought it was fake, but it has now been verified. From south-west France today, where 140,000 people have already been evacuated and many more told to prepare to leave. The horses were reportedly released from a riding stables in the fire zone
Latest - local authorities have announced that the wildfire is moving with 'unprecedented speed' and is heading towards Bordeaux. In SW France 140,000 have already been evacuated, many more have been told to prepare. The arm has been mobilised
36 hours and counting. My earworm from this infuriatingly catchy (but sweet) slice of Belgian pop
