Like, lots of people play Pokemon. They have for years and years. The scalpers and investors not only don't represent the game, they are actively not wanted, by both players and Pokemon themselves.

Our regionals regularly hit 2k players. And according to mtg's fandom site, Magic caps at 1200 for Pro Tours.

If anything, MTG is actually far guiltier of chasing the designed to be pulled and expensive with what you noted, Universes Beyond, and their obnoxious structuring of how packs work now.

That's very much not true for Pokemon. Scalpers and investors have been doing that, but Pokemon has never been about that. Playables are often printed into the ground, and people like collecting, but the game is designed around being a game first.
