One thing to keep in mind when working with comments between drafts & main: When merging, a comment in the draft will overwrite a comment in main linked to the same portion of text. In other words, overlapping comments = merge conflicts, so try to keep your comments spaced out!

Commenting on the main document works the same as in drafts. Simply highlight the text you wish to comment on ➡️ type, style, and post 💌

Human authorship can only be proven by human means. Humans labor, AI doesn’t. Writers think, pause, reflect, and resculpt; a block of AI-generated text doesn’t. AI verifiers aren’t the future. The human resistance will use human evidence.

Reading through the comments of the Substack release post, it’s very clear: writers don’t want this. They see the ‘partnership’ for what it is: another attempt to shove AI down our throats.

We’ve said it once and we’ll say it again: judging style for “AI-tells” is not a reliable way of adducing human vs. AI-generated work, especially given the grave consequences of getting it wrong (e.g. loss of trust, deplatforming).

These errors have serious punitive implications for writers. By inflaming the AI witch-hunt mentality, AI verifiers slash confidence and sow mistrust. Ironically, the writers who will suffer most are the ones who’ve never even touched AI.

Despite Pangram’s insistence to the contrary, there are dozens if not hundreds of studies that indicate AI verifiers turn out false positives and negatives all the time. (See: www.theguardian.com/books/2026/j...) Substackers are running their own work through Pangram to prove it.
