With bowel & bladder empty, the urge to use the litter box might be residual irritation from the cystitis. The cystitis origin is also a question mark, with stress being a big factor. So. Today will have helped 🤦‍♀️ The vet prescribed a supplement for stress for #CasperCat. Or for me. It's unclear.

“Hmmmm.” The vet felt carefully around the tummy and bowel of #CasperCat. He looked in his eyes, his mouth, and listened to his heart. It took so long I was bracing myself for the worst. “This cat is fine.” WTF. Perhaps the leap off the cat tree should have tipped me off.

The nearby vet is closed on Sunday, so we had an hour journey to a vet across town. Despite the trek, I love this clinic. They run a #TNR program and are fabulous with stray cats. I bring them the wildest, feline-part-werewolf and they make them into cat burritos and handle them like kittens.

Acrobatics aside, persistently using the litter box without being able to go can suggest a urine blockage. It’s more common in male cats. It can be connected to cystitis (which Casper recently had). It’s an emergency. Despite being stupidly hot, we ran to make the evening clinic.

#CasperCat hit the floor and scampered behind the cat tree. I picked up the carrier, dropping it so the door was pointed towards him. “You’ve been using the litter box all day and produced noting! In.” To my surprise—we’d been chasing each other around this room for a while—he scuttled inside.

Fortunately, the big earthquake today was on a different island 🙂

Night vet has confirmed it is cystitis (not a more serious blockage). They think the antibiotics #CasperCat had earlier are probably doing their job, but his bladder is inflamed and causing him to keep dashing to the litter box and strain. So, we’re getting fluids and an anti-inflammatory.

I called the night vet clinic and made an appointment, answering a series of questions about #CasperCat. In a cat emergency, I showed surprisingly Japanese skills 😅 Now that I’m here, I’ve lost them all. Along with my ability to stand.

They’ve taken #CasperCat into the back. He looks like a lamb. But that gentleman is an opportunist when escape might be in the offing. I did warn them. But—based on the last noise I heard—perhaps insufficiently.

It’s 4:30am and we are at the night vet 😕 I suspect this is still cystitis, but poor #CasperCat is running back to his litter box every five minutes and I can’t rule out a blockage (common and deadly in male cats). I’m hoping that the vet can at least give him something for discomfort.

The vet thinks it’s cystitis, a risk in this ridiculous heat, even though I leave the aircon on. “Could we confirm with an ultrasound?” The vet looks at me. “Yes, if he will be calm.” A pause. “I can not guarantee this.” 😐 We’re going to roll with the antibiotics.

That is not the way this experience is going to go 😂

I gently rest my hands on the cat carrier before the vet opens it. “He is still … shy.” Our eyes meet. We’re both remembering the escape attempt into the back room. Doors are closed. Two vet assistants are summoned.

Suspicious of conveniently placed boxes, #CasperCat hid in the litter box (x2). He was thwarted (x1) and we’re in a taxi because a thunderstorm is due. Naturally. We’re heading to the vet where the patient previously attempted an escape through the back room, maiming many. So. We’ll be welcomed.
