just because it's stupid doesn't make it not also genuinely very very worrying bsky.app/profile/elio...

Eliot Higgins

This is a clear example of the DoJ being weaponised against a member of the public to support The Dear Leader's lies. Really shameful behaviour.

To be fair, this is what we do in Australia and many other parts of the world. That doesn’t mean they aren’t trying to mess with the elections, but hand-marked and hand counted paper ballots isn’t in itself a bad idea

Also, somewhat ironically, summarising huge amounts of data generated at speed into a useful recap of what happened and flagging up weird things seems like a PERFECT use case for AI, why are they not doing that

It'd be interesting to hear from an expert on what the legal liability is here. Doesn't seem like anyone in this case intends to press charges, but you could imagine it happening in future.

Get MORE involved, I should say

Getting to the big issues which will definitely stop this from happening again

And did the same with AfD at least 18 months ago

And I'd say reducing major harm and disruption to the lives of, again, literally millions of people to "nothing fucking happened" because those people happen to be poor and in Asia is an empathy issue on your part, so I guess we'll have to agree to differ

010

That’s not what you said. You said “nothing fucking happened” and “nothing really changes except fruit is more expensive in the Philippines.” You can call it hyperbole if you want, but it’s an incredibly callous way to dismiss the very real suffering of millions as a direct result of the fuel crisis

110

I don’t think dismissing huge human, financial and political consequences which have genuinely damaged many many lives as “nothing fucking happened” is just hyperbole.

100

Sorry which is it then, “nothing fucking happened” or “millions of people suffered I know all about it”?

100

What you’re really observing is that rich countries paid their way out of consequences

Nothing fucking happened? Asia cut workdays, imposed emergency restrictions, limited flights, declared national emergencies. The fact that Americans don’t pay much attention to anything which doesn’t impact them directly is not the same as “nothing fucking happened”

TLDR; no digital photo is a 100% accurate copy of the real thing because digital images are made up of pixels and you can only have so many pixels, especially when zoomed to this degree.

021

Digital images are compressed in different ways depending on a lot of factors, including the cameras/phones they're taken on, the format they're stored in, the digital platforms they're shared on etc. I think that's by far the most likely explanation for what's happening here.
