John is and always has been a coward. At some point when this is all over, he's going to try and pull out his weak, half-hearted token opposition to try and claim he was always on the right side.

If we had a functional housing market, there would be a LOT more of it right now and more builders would be competing on lowering prices, offering more types of housing, etc. Instead it feels like they all build to their own interests, not customers.

In a lot of ways, housing feels the same. Not many competing builders, they seem to all coalesce around the same profit models that incentivize high pricing, no building to demand, highly regulated but in ways that keep competitors out and prices high.

Utility markets often devolve to anti-competitive spaces (single power, gas, water provider, limited competition for telecom) that results in higher prices and/or worse service. When a muni steps in to operate at cost, many of the problems go away.

I'm increasingly convinced that housing doesn't follow market rules in many of the same ways that utilities do not.

Will Wright has to have some regrets.

I swear it's like the party learned nothing in the last decade. There seems to be this attitude of "well of COURSE you have to vote for us" even when America has, several times, said "naw fam, we bounce". The general electorate is voting on vibes, and theirs won't pass the check.

I've seen this done with nicknames before (e.g., William "Bill" Smith), but taking the nickname on its own with the quotes... that's new to me. Maybe some kind of anachronism of the time we just don't see anymore?

A good follow-up. Muni electric is known for selling more-or-less at cost (with some obvious variance depending on if it's subsidized by property taxes). Selling at a loss doesn't really solve the food desert or competition problem.
