Yeah. Shrug. I can see the argument that pros (discouraging defenders from doing knowingly reckless things in box) outweigh the cons. But it just fundamentally bothers me that we're just handing them 0.75 xgoals because of something that happened 16 feet from goal when nobody had possession.

I get the rule and I get why it exists. There's no argument that by rule, it is a penalty. But for a non-scoring chance to wind up resulting in 0.75 goals expected, or whatever % chance of penalty going in is, doesn't sit right for me.

Yeah, I get just having a very simple rule with no room for interpretation. Just in a sport where you'll see 2.5 goals in a typical game, it seems harsh when it wasn't even a scoring opportunity.

Was it a foul? Yes. Was it in the box? Yes. Was it dumb? Yes. Should it result in a penalty kick, given how disproportionately important those can be? Obviously not.

I've watched many Summer League games and rarely meant business.
