Assassin's Creed: Odyssey is actually a pretty good Homeric story full of big personalities and personal journeys that don't line up perfectly with the will of the world and narrative. *But* it's also a bit of a slog and the CEO of Ubisoft is an abuser-enabling monster who deserves boycotted.

It is beyond me how D&D 5.5e came out and they didn't fix the ludicrous situation that basically only human characters don't have some kind of dark vision - making lighting your way in *dungeon crawling* utterly meaningless.

The problem is - it really is unhealthy. For pop science educators like Hank Green developing a GenAI chatbot addiction really is potentially life ruining. His literal job is accurate information and critical thinking. Both things that chatbots provably degrade with use. He's risking his career.

A lot of AI doomerism coming from both the AI boosters and the AI sceptics right now. I really need you all to understand that LLM-powered AIs are not *that* clever, have hard limitations, and the people running the businesses involved all have no idea what they're doing. *And* they're hated.

I reckon another studio should just swing with it and resurrect Underworld with Mahershala Ali leading it. Because unlike Mike's take - it's pretty obvious that a half-decent writer/director combo could print money with this idea. www.pajiba.com/news/mahersh...

People who have gained from therapy tend to explain their success in very simple and grounded language, language that has been processed into their own terms by that success. People who use entirely therapy speak tend to be using it as surface-level justifications to explain away bad behaviour.

Make sure you answer this survey - complete with rejecting the insultingly low amounts of money being offered to line the pockets of a multi-trillion dollar industry and the completely fictional concept of being able to revoke consent after your book has been churned up for a trainin gdataset.

The few authors who proudly parade their AI use keep insisting its inevitable and that everyone's using it and it's only a matter of time until it's the norm. The sheer panic displayed by publishers knowing how fierce the backlash would be if they were found to publish it suggests otherwise.

One thing I can confidently say is that more than a few other books have been canceled for AI use--including by established authors and non-fiction books--that have just not made the news yet.

This might be the most sociopathic treatment of literature in history. At least historic book burnings had an ideology. This is so amoral it's practically alien.

This is ... horrific

Often when I see pretty objectively powerful and privileged people getting deeply distressed because a lot of people are making fun of them online, and pretty brazenly trying to frame them as a violent mob - - all I can think is "man, you weren't really bullied at school, were you?"
