I recall it being promoted as a major attraction of Weird Night, so they certainly made a virtue of it.

That had some good stuff IIRC. The Python Night had some actually good new sketches!

It was great cos it used the format to do lots of short, unusual things. Later on they'd just slap three loosely related programmes together and call it a theme night.

I assumed it was fictional. (Obviously it's shot at the Most British House In Vancouver)

That does seem surprising considering how strict US network TV was, but Trek was always shown well before the watershed here, which must have played a part.

Weird Night was probably the best of those 90s BBC2 theme nights, along with Goal TV. I stayed up to watch the all-night movie marathon up to the start of Strange Holiday, by which time I was dozing off.

And I realised how true it was. It's not very interesting. It doesn't really help us understand it. That was really liberating because I could just quote that and move on.

When writing my book on film noir (more than 20 years ago) I read a lot of debate over whether it was a genre, a style, a movement, or what. Then I read a great book which briefly summarised all this and said "Ultimately, though, the question of whether noir is a genre is not very interesting".

Ah, the "I like this thing, therefore I will argue it is progressive actually" genre of article.

It'd be far preferable to do what many artists do and release the physical edition later if necessary, rather than rushing it - but as you say, they want the chart bounce (and I'm sure they sell more by releasing the physical product amid the initial hype rather than several months later).

I never actually listen to Queen these days, having had a phase of listening to nothing but Queen in my early teens, I just thought it was funny to suggest them

I always like getting a download so I'm not limited to listening at home, but if I'm at home I will always get the vinyl out if I've got it, because to my mind that's the point of having it.

I wonder if part of it is that vinyl plants are at capacity and you need to book way in advance, so you can't just put the release back three weeks - you need to take your slot or risk losing it?
