i wonder if being such established players would make them less likely to interpret the phrase in a pejorative way? i've definitely seen other people discuss the negative connotation. i don't go on twitter but i'm curious to know what the overall ratio is. at least we all agree that reid reads.

to be clear, i think it refers to the person not the card.

i never say it because i think it can come off as patronizing. the implication being that the person is inexperienced and out of their depth. it can be intended as a positive though. a responsible player would not shy away from reading cards to avoid mistakes. reid duke is a reader (complimentary).

yeah, just play out a bunch of 2/2s and then surprise, akroma's will. maybe the issue is more about it being boring than about it being bad. you just never have that "whee" moment.

i used to think white and red needed ramp and card draw but now i'm convinced what white actually lacks is concise ways to win the game. every other color has a variety of strategies that can win out of nowhere and succinctly end games. white has maybe 4-5 wincons that don't involve a wide board.

feroz founded the wizard school on ulgrotha. wizards don't tend to be very green though and even though he started it, the school doesn't have to perfectly align with him.

yeah, i was tempted to look through crimped card listings and see if there had been an uptick. it just seems too easy. you can buy a beta basic for $20 and turn it into a $200 card. old stuff feels especially vulnerable.

new players in 40 or 60 card formats will often choose (incorrectly) to run more than the minimum amount. i think it's okay to take away that choice for the sake of simplicity. with the exception of yorion and battle of wits i don't think i've ever heard anybody question it.

100 card minimum because having a big singleton deck makes games more varied and encourages folks to use a wider array of cards. 100 card maximum because players would not be able to restrain themselves and decks would become unruly. 100 is also a good number. the minimum is more important though.

edh decks need to be 100 cards. 100 is the minimum. 100 is the maximum. companions sort of break this rule, which is why i was against them being legal when they were first revealed.

i'm curious how many cards folks end up running with whtz. normal constructed lists are usually 240-250. with your starting hand you're down to 232. it shouldn't be that hard to find one of the ~30 cards that will lead to battle of wits. i feel like archmage ascension in particular works well.

she summoned scryb sprites in the story. also the new cards in the set seem to use a lot of existing cards as tokens, perhaps because it doesn't have any actual tokens.
