There is no crew sexier than Lupin's gang (and Zenigata, I guess...depending on how competent he is. I prefer a competent, stoic, Zenigata to the ridiculous Fail-Boss version).

I loved LUPIN THE 3RD so much I even read some of Maurice LeBlanc's ARSENE LUPIN books. ^___^;;; They're pretty good!

Monkey Punch creating LUPIN THE 3RD as a salary man's fantasy in the 70s, heavily influenced by JAMES BOND...it's just sexy adventures and vulgar humor in exotic locations for pent up wage slaves who could only dream of going to these places. It's great stuff!

I LOVE LUPIN THE 3RD. It's one of my favorite pieces of media PERIOD. : | The characters are all fantastically compelling, and the franchise is so pliable that they can do ANYTHING...and DO! Sci-fi, ancient civilizations, tomb raiding, spy stuff, conspiracy thrillers, heists, capers, globetrotting

Yeah, just jump in anywhere! I started with THE CASTLE OF CAGLIOSTRO and the two episodes that Miyazaki directed (WINGS OF THE ALBATROSS and GOODBYE, LUPIN THE 3RD), and then watched most of the films and OVAs until CARTOON NETWORK aired the original 70s/80s show in the 2000s.

I loved it! It looked great, and they structured it to be something of a way to sell LUPIN THE 3RD to an international audience. It's mostly teen friendly, but still gets WEIRD in ways that LUPIN like to get weird, especially when it comes to Nazi stuff (Lupin HATES the fucking Nazis).

The LUPIN vs DETECTIVE CONAN ones are a lot of fun!

Though it's been going since the 70s, there are technically only 5 seasons, with 4 and 5 (the 'Blue Jacket' era) being the most recent, and they're REALLY good. The movies and specials are mostly stand alone things that you can watch with little knowledge of LUPIN the 3RD & vary GREATLY in quality.

But honestly...you can jump in on the first episode of ANY season of the regular LUPIN THE 3RD and you'll be fine. The two most recent seasons were pretty fantastic, and a bit different for the franchise in that they had serialized elements over the full season, but were still mostly episodic.

...of what LUPIN THE 3RD is like, or THE WOMAN CALLED FUJIKO MINE, which is a television series by the COWBOY BEBOP guy and the woman that wrote MICHIKO AND HATCHIN and YUURI! ON ICE, and works as something of an origin for how the Lupin gang all met, with Fujiko as the central protagonist.

Though I think it's mostly just confined to THE SECRET OF MAMO, which is one of the most popular of the 80s films (and REALLY trippy). But if you're looking for a good starting point, I'd recommend LUPIN THE 3RD: THE FIRST, which is a good stand alone caper, that gives you a pretty good summary...

...from previous films dating back to the 80s, though they do work pretty well as character pieces (each film spotlights one of the core 5 characters as the central protagonist in a story that plays to their strengths), so in that regard you might be a bit like, "What was this reference too?"

...and some NC-17 (like this series...THE BLOOD SPRAY OF GOEMON ISHIKAWA is a particularly GNARLY bit of ultraviolence to a degree I've never seen in LUPIN THE 3RD). I don't know that I'd recommend this particular series of films, as they're very fanservice heavy and refer to a bunch of stuff...

There really is no continuity to LUPIN THE 3RD. They're a bit like JAMES BOND in that regard...every one of them is pretty self contained, and the only real consistency is that the characters are generally true to their characters, though the tone can vary WILDLY, with some more kid friendly...

I can't tell if they're going to do another of these or not... Either way, I'm glad that Lupin killed Muon. I hated that arrogant prick.

Watching LUPIN THE 3RD: THE IMMORTAL BLOODLINE. I hope they NEVER stop making new LUPIN THE 3RD stuff. : | This is the 5th film in Takeshi Koike's VERY adult LUPIN series. The most extraordinary thing about LUPIN THE 3RD is that it works in ANY tone...it can be kid friend or X-RATED. :D

This week's X-MEN was some of the PEAKEST Nightcrawler stuff we've ever seen.
