4/ Even expert interviews can be trouble. It's not because experts are necessarily bad or lazy, but because it's hard to carry specifics about a large body of knowledge in your head. When you are asked to come up with a detail on the spot in an interview, quick verification is likely AI-assisted.

3/ For what I'd call soft expertise (organization and company blog posts and stuff), it's helpful for me to see the wholesale embrace of Gen AI writing for that content from folks in the SEO consulting field. MORE

2/ It's changing often, but presently I'm seeing a lot of "verification" on search engines through things like Reddit that I would, um, not stake my reputation on. And if you follow the citation links, even those are sometimes hallucinated. MORE

I think it's important to keep trying things like AI-assisted search (Gemini, Bing & friends), if for no other reason, because sources and leaders are likely using it to verify things, and it's good to know where we are. Right now, it's the bad place. MORE

2/ Example: Straw Man: Health officials locked us down, pretending a mild disease was deadly. Fact: Health officials asked people to stay away from others so vulnerable folks, for whom the disease was not mild, didn't overwhelm hospitals so much that they stopped functioning.

That's fair. And dropped charges are, in fact, evidence of working, in a way. But also not working in a different way.

I have had college students who graduated from NC private schools who were literally taught this in school, not jokingly.

Here's who qualifies (not my institution, btw). Really interesting mix of mostly US, with UK, some in Europe and Canada, and a few other places, but an odd assortment of schools. The arXiv and alike pre-print requirement...as I read it you have to have posted recent, non-peer-reviewed work.

No, it just seems like they could. I guess that's requiring too much altruism for a business with other lobbying priorities...
