Happy Yorkshire Day everyone! Here’s a piece I wrote last year about my adoptive county…. and ‘All Creatures Great and Small’ will be back on UK Channel 5 and US PBS over Christmas 2026. @yorkshirebylines.co.uk

I think these lists are used mostly for cancellation & vexatiousness & I wish that @safety.bsky.app would get rid of them. I was put on a list called ‘Nazis’ about a year ago and have complained to @bsky.app several times, but never even got a reply. I suspect it’s a contravention of EU/UK GDPR.

Blocked this twat who added me to a list called Time Leeches, he was very rude when he didn't like my perfectly polites response disagreeing with him.

This is true of the arts in general. Independent publishers are being squeezed out of the market; publishing giants entice authors to pay to publish their own writing, & to amend it to vanilla ‘house’ styles. AI is also beginning to replace people in writing, film and art. We need to be more aware.

So the UK has a new government wooing us with its willingness to listen. So please, can we have a state education system that treats children as people rather than as information processing systems, most particularly in the early years? @paulwaughmp.bsky.social @lucympowell.bsky.social #EduSky

Yes, this. In the full chapter this blog was drawn from I look back to Piaget and Vygotsky (whose theories preempted later neurological evidence) as the start of this level of knowledge of early childhood, along with Anna Freud, Melanie Klein and Susan Isaacs. Plowden drew from all of these. #EduSky

Strangely enough, the research based Plowden Report child-centred system that worked - developed post-war to encourage free-thinking, independent people after the horror of Nazism - was thrown out in favour of Gradgrind Academies. And here we are.

As the new Early Years Minister @paulwaughmp.bsky.social takes up his post, could #EarlyYears researchers and practitioners request he considers the most recent #ChildDevelopment research& adjusts policy accordingly? We’ve been waiting for this for literally years @andyburnham.bsky.social #EduSky

Boris Johnson gave the U.K. Brexit, Trump gave the US war with Iran. A good slogan for those opposing the populist option in future elections (beyond the obvious humanitarian issues) is ‘populists make *you* pay.’

Elizabeth N. Saunders

Can't get numb to this: The United States is stuck in a war it started, cannot end, and may further escalate to no avail, having dismantled its diplomatic apparatus, depleted its military stockpile, and destroyed its credibility. A historic strategic mistake harming millions in many different ways.
