1/ What’s maybe missed is that this cute corollary stage almost never comes from finding a simpler direct proof of the same statement. It usually requires the invention of an entirely new language or conceptual framework (group theory, in this case) that reorganizes a large region of math at once.

For example many important basic results in number theory became easy spinoffs of group theory (which was developed later), like Fermat's Little Theorem.
