Using 21 years of fish data from Brazil’s Upper Paraná River Floodplain, we show that the biomass of large native fish has declined, while large non-native species are thriving — leading to a >50% drop in fishery value. Great team and outstanding leadership by Dieison Moi!
Pavel KratinaCheck out our latest study, in @natureecoevo.bsky.social, where we applied size spectra to show community-level responses to human land-use & invasive fishes. Led by brilliant D. Moi, w/ @vssaito.bsky.social @drdanperkins.bsky.social @gqromero.bsky.social, et al. www.nature.com/articles/s41...
PhD student Emma Brind presenting some of our latest research on the Hogsmill Restoration Project. Great to share our findings and contribute to the discussion on river restoration.
Dan PerkinsThat was a cracking River Restoration Centre Conference! A standout moment: the video of @kneppwilding.bsky.social pigs holding their breath to forage on swan mussels. 🐷🌊 A surprising food web interaction!
Check out this amazing dataset! Size spectra are key for understanding community-level impacts of environmental change. Fragmented literature + nuances in the analyses have hindered direct comparisons within / across ecosystem types. This standardized, open-source dataset enables those comparisons 😊
Zeynep Ersoy📢 GLOSSAQUA is out in Ecology @esajournals.bsky.social. Big collaboration w/40+ coauthors led by myself, @chaevangelista.bsky.social & @ignasiarranz.bsky.social. It compiles global size spectra parameters from aquatic ecosystems globally👉: doi.org/10.1002/ecy.... #datapaper #aquaticecology 🌍🧪🧵(1/4)
As the chair of a previous working group, I highly recommend this opportunity! Fantastic team, support and location.
Jesper Andersen (318 ppm)AquaSYNC / NIVA has today announced a call for a new Synthesis Working Group focusing on analyses of existing data on 'biodiversity & climate change' in Arctic and sub-Arctic aquatic ecosystems. AquaSYNC will support a working group in 2025 and 2026. Read more here: www.aquasync.dk/post/breakin...
Proud to be part of this great work & team. Stay tuned for publication details!
Pavel KratinaDelightful collaboration with Dieison Moi, @vssaito.bsky.social , @drdanperkins.bsky.social , @gqromero.bsky.social and others 🤩
Thanks for the introduction @kratina.bsky.social! Great to see so many familiar (and new) ecology folk here 😀
Pavel KratinaNice to see @drdanperkins.bsky.social and @vssaito.bsky.social transitioning to the @bsky.app . They post about #streams, #rivers, #ecology, #biodiversity, #GlobalChange, #fish, #macroinvertebrates, #science, #LandUseChange, #AquaticEcology and other cool stuff 🤩
