Oh! I didn't know it's called "common placing" either (and I call myself an early modernist 🫥). I am tempted in small classes to supply nice notebooks, colorful pens, & sticky flags myself, to introduce students to the sheer delight of mapping ideas, tracing their thinking, and chatting with texts.

Yep (grad school)! There is so much I miss about Chicago, but yeah, the Art Institute is right at the top.

my music dept's FB page was deactivated w/o recourse to appeal some years ago, b/c of videos of our students performing classical music rep. Years of content gone. The acct was only reinstated when someone who knew someone was able to reach someone, but not via their actual complaint procedures.

Likewise—so encouraging at every turn. She was also such a supportive "copy editor" for so many of us early music scholars (although she knew so much that her work went far beyond copy editing—inevitably she'd gently make a substantive suggestion or make a connection as only she could)

Honest compels me to admit it is not likely I would participate in the MedRun 🙌, although I would feel very guilty about it. 6/

What a spectacular conference to attend in person: I am sorry to miss the concerts and exhibitions, and to be in a city and at a university with so much history. But I love how supportive and community-oriented it all is, and love seeing the MedRen lettering so colorful 🏳️‍🌈 5/

A tribute to Bonnie Blackburn, whose loss is immeasurable. She was beloved everywhere—including in Poland—and helped build bridges with Polish scholars over 20 years ago. What a difference she made to so many, and how profoundly she shaped the field. 4/

I see about 60-70 people registered online in addition to the 300+ in person, and there are about 20 tuned in for this one despite the time difference if attending from N. America. What an important thing for the field to include anyone who wants to participate. 2/
