I make games in Godot and draw comics sometimes! 🕹️Play Critter Drifters: https://store.steampowered.com/app/3755680/Critter_Drifters/ ☕Ko-Fi: https://ko-fi.com/doodledonut 🕹️Itch: https://doodledonut.itch.io/

I actually initially wanted to have an armadillo be the main character but gravitated toward a robot for simplicity and scope reasons. Today though, I modeled this and I'm leaning toward that again... A 3D action platformer about a marooned armadillo spaceship pilot just has SO much more charm.

More fun with enemies, this time an ominous floating orb. Kinda wanna give it an electricity thing that zaps you from afar, but for now everything is lasers. #godot #indiedev #gamedev

Pretty happy with my ranks for the #GMTKJam, in particular the Artwork and Enjoyment categories. There were ~10k entries overall, so that puts me around the top 20% or so.

Doing the "boring" work of making modular systems. In this case, a simple component I can slap onto an enemy, point it to an array of meshes, and those meshes can automatically be flashed red to indicate damage. Otherwise, I'd have to redo this logic for each enemy 😐 #godot #gamedev #indiedev

Was reflecting a bit on my most recent Itch games (all for jams) and at risk of tooting my own horn, I'm proud of how far I've come with 3D in general.

The plan was to let the drone carry the rover over horizontal distances, but now I'm leaning toward that move being primarily for vertical movement. The "spring tether" move, which I added today, would be used for horizontal movement. Also it's fun to anchor yourself and get flung. #godot #gamedev

I feel like I'm right on the cusp of this project starting to feel like something. I've got some ideas in my head for the premise and progression, but they're still kinda nebulous and it's preventing me from really digging into development. #godot #gamedev #indiedev

I debated having them, but I think this project needs shooting lasers to be more interesting. That shifts the focus away from platforming and puzzles a bit, but I can still have those elements be the primary focus. #godot #gamedev #indiedev

The Avatar Aang movie was REALLY good. It nails the comedy / drama balance of the show, has beautiful action sequences and those expressive, over-the-top character animations, etc. Absolute fan service of a movie, in the best way possible. The only thing that drags it down is a rushed third act 1/2

A sketch I liked, outlined and colored, then decided I didn't like it enough to finish so instead here's some flicking through the layers. I often enjoy the sketchy look more often tbh. And not even just my own art, actually, just in general.

Finished my #GMTKJam game today. Might add some polish, but it's a small yet complete experience. I'll post a link later in the spirit of the jam (which ends Sunday), but it's on my Itch if you're bored.

A little video to show my progress so far on the #GMTKJam This is level 5. I want to get at least 15 or 20 total with increasing difficulty. It's kinda nice to have such a simple game loop with level-based progression tbh. #godot #gamedev #indiedev

Looks like I'm gonna follow through on the #GMTKJam this year. Feeling good about my idea, it's pretty simple, and as per usual it came about from riffing puns on the theme, "Countdown". As in, Count Down. Like a count / vampire. The actual gameplay mechanic (limited flaps) came shortly afterward.
