it isn't just AI that's the issue. in a debate-centric culture which is always centered around arguments, however detailed they may be, what do we count as thinking? for myself, i want to see how it is we even get the questions that matter in the first place. i want to know that we're observing

I’ve seen in two culture /higher ed magazines recently the claim that the printing press engendered a crisis of authority at universities bc anyone could publish what they wanted and people could learn things without universities. This is not true.

reading the bookforum review of Middlemen and I expect that the scholarly publishing equivalent of the agent is the freelance developmental editor. if conglomeration drove the rise of the agent, austerity drove the rise of the latter—the editor who actually edits, helps w/ the proposal, etc.
