Over the years we've seen many advances in mechanical game design; MMOs have gotten VERY good at creating a streamlined engaging content treadmill, once they decided that that was their goal. I wonder what the genre would look like today if the economic incentives that lead to that weren't there...

I feel like the experience of the Weird Route in particular is going to be much better once the game is fully released and you can do it all with full knowledge of what exactly the ending we're trying to prevent even is.

Anything by Popcap. They were getting people's mom's into PC gaming back in like 2003! And then EA just decided to ruin them for nothing. Many such cases

After I finished the game for the first time I had a chat with a friend about our thoughts on the story. After a while he says "why are you acting like Aldia is some big important guy where is all this coming from" and at that moment I learned they patched in half the damn plot post-release lol

The game that made me realize that there are types of stories that can only be told via games. Still a perfect title even all these years later. Here's to the next one, Kid.

It's interesting how nowadays someone talking like this may be indicative of a somewhat anti-art stance; "mass appeal is more important than depth"... but we're only here because people like Miyamoto figured out how to make the world at large actually care about games at all back in 1996. Hmm.

Even if I accept that Dark Souls 2 is the worst Soulsborne game, that still makes it like the 6th best game ever made

Ultrakill is one of those things where I know I'm gonna love it when it's finally done in like 2030 but I'm actively avoiding interacting with any of it until then for my own health. Mostly because I've already learned my lesson by being strung along by Deltarune for half my adult life

Finally got around to this one during the Steam sale, thought it was maybe a little too simple until I accidentally fell through a trapdoor out of the bottom of the entire world and my whole party was lost. 10/10

I agree and this has been driving me insane since the game came out. It's wild how much the third act refuses to engage with the philosophical questions brought up by its own plot twist. Also wild how Verso's desired ending ("please let me die") is treated with so much more sympathy than Maelle's.

Full game releasing August 3!

Storywise, that video does reveal most of the big twists, though there are still plenty of details and lots of lovely bits of dialogue that you will get to experience on your own if you play it. But also, the core puzzle gameplay is just really really excellent, and is mostly unspoiled.

It's so funny that they DO end up having a (magical) democratic election for king but it turns out that the winning candidate is the rightful heir to the throne anyway.
