I've literally heard folks on here make two different, opposing arguments against EVs related to brakes: 1) the brake pads wear down faster on EVs 2) the brake pads on EVs don't get used enough, which puts them at risk Heads, I win; tails, you lose 😂

Electric cooking is definitely better than gas for indoor air quality #IAQ. That said, local exhaust (e.g. range hoods) is still critical, even w electric. There is research linking the particulates from cooking (regardless of fuel) to an increase risks of lung cancer. Mostly from aerosolized oils.

The depth of efficiency is really awe inspiring. EV's are in use in some mining and logging operations and the downhill trip is fully loaded. The uphill is empty, as a result they can work all day or close to it without a fresh charge / battery. Pretty great.

You can compare the weight of that Mercedes electric SUV to a comparable Mercedes to see the difference; I doubt it's that much, as a %. But buying a Mercedes and complaining about weight and cost is not really all that relevant to most people's experiences. There's a reason they ride smooth.

I haven’t found this to be true. The Nissan Leaf weighs ~30% more than a comparable Nissan ICE sedan. With people in it, the difference is even less. I do wonder if the acceleration of EVs might take a toll on the tires, but again I haven’t heard that it makes a difference. n

We always get a few quotes. I find service folks (plumbers, roofers, electricians, etc) set a rate based on their time/costs, then ratchet up based on how busy they are and how much/little they want to do the job

They completely replaced the panel, and added a bit of capacity bc we were getting a new heat pump. We prob got a deal bc of the timing - cost of everything has fluctuated a lot over the past few years - but I don’t think it was an outlier.

That’s a rough quote. We recently had our entire panel replaced and upgraded for $8k and we live in a very expensive city. At the time we got our EV we definitely didn’t need a panel upgrade. We only needed the upgrade after adding solar and two heat pumps. You might be getting bad advice.

Apples, oranges Also: an EV does not have to cost $60k. Brand new Nissan Leaf starts at $30k before any incentives.

Oof, yeah. And I’ve heard Cybertrucks are absolute garbage. But I wouldn’t consider poor manufacturing quality control to be a maintenance issue.

Side note on regenerative breaking in an #EV: there's nothing quite like going downhill and seeing your available mileage *increase*

That sucks, I'm sorry. I'm not sure I'd compare the battery in a riding mower to a car. FWIW, we've had our Nissan Leaf for ~8 years and haven't had any problems at all. Nissan also offers a reasonable warranty (I think for new ones it's 8 years / 100,000 miles).

Nothing is a guarantee; sometimes you get a lemon. And sometimes "the shop" doesn't have any idea what they're doing. But on the whole, it's absolutely true that EV maintenance is lower.

One aspect of electric cars that doesn’t get enough attention among the general public is that there’s basically no maintenance. #EV I hate that I have to spend a bunch of time and money to take my gas car into the shop this week for routine maintenance.

With my last dying breath, my son leans over to hear me say... "My son, promise me you'll never watch tv in a public place with the sound on unless you have headphones..."

Our solar is great, but the peak price for electricity where we are is over fifty cents per kWh (off-peak is much cheaper), so load shifting has real value. I’ll check out the other products, thx!

The $1,279 product doesn’t include the microinverter, just the battery it seems. It’s a little hard to tell, which is why I’m looking for more info. We already have solar w net metering, but the difference between on- and off-peak rates could make a battery worthwhile.

Thanks. $1,300 for a ~2kwh battery (the EcoFlow STREAM Ultra) does not seem like a good price. That doesn’t include any solar, right? What am I missing?

Oh man, I got questions… This is just plugged into the wall? You can set the timer to either draw power or discharge power? When you say “discharge”, it does that automatically through the AC outlet back to the grid? Or do you mean discharge locally to appliances or whatever is plugged into it?
