Same here. I like that I can talk about my varying interests (politics, short fiction, journalism, whatever) and not get stuck in a pigeonhole that I can’t get out of.

But the fucked up part is that replicating a formula for the sake of the algorithmic god’s absolutely works. Homogeny is rewarded, and people eat the shit up, then an artist or establishment replicates that formula again, and so on, until there’s just no more individuality.

Frfr capitalism making the need for success with your business/job a legit life/death situation through our dependency on money for survival REALLY hinders creativity so much Folks def need more safety for creative risks that can fail cause the cost of failure is too high for unique self expression

TikTok is the worst offender in my opinion. Like just from the standpoint as a *tries not to wretch* “content creator”, it’s annoying that my videos about political content get suppressed just because the videos I made before that were book related. I LIKE MANY THINGS.

I went down a rabbit hole on BookTok and I cannot stress enough I can not tell most of them books on there apart

But really though algorithms are why some, for example, coffee shops all got the same aesthetic. Because certain looks go viral on IG, then other coffee shops see that and think that’s how they can go viral, then so on and so on until all individuality is gone. Same shit happens to us.

But also it’s just annoying when I get oddly obsessed with something obscure that now my social media feed wants to just show me that thing. Just because I’m neck deep in videos about voice acting for 48 hours doesn’t mean that’s all I wanna see on YouTube now!!

Algorithms kinda remove the humanity from shit, and from us to some extent.

I like to go down rabbit holes on social media but then after like a day or two I don’t give a shit about said subject I went down a rabbit hole on but nope now my timeline only wants to show me that thing now

I kinda hate social media algorithms. Like all them.
