Checked on the rights of people who are homeless to vote in municipal elections in Canada - they can! We encouraged people here to vote federally but the process had challenges. We helped get proper paper work done but workers at the polling stations had not been trained. Success, but a hassle.

Methane release is only one part of the sad story. The land is not safe for the people who live there and whose ancestors have lived there for generations. Open water and sea level rise are also making communities uninhabitable.

Looks like Canada is futher expanding its range in Ecuador where it ignores Indigenous rights and as well as the need for environmental protection. Canadian mining companies have been exploiting Ecuador and its people relenlessly & unchecked for decades.

Further thinking about ubiquitous memes - the high level art and pithy observations by political cartoonists like MacKay must be the stimulus for attempts by mere mortals to capture the moment with memes. Long live political cartoonists! The creme de la creme for making memorable & pertinent jabs.

Widely cirulated social media memes don't seem to appear much here from what I see. Evidence is showing that their brief & sometimes guffaw-producing content both influences & reflects public perception. Might be a good idea not to dismiss them as always trivial if you work for change for the better

The story is the same in small rural communities except there are fewer health & social services per capita for all members of the community, not only for those unhoused. In summer in 'Cottage Country' the large influx of much wealthier people enjoying outdoor cafes & events makes a stark contrast.
