The AI crap is inescapable. I give up. There is no Beartooth Range in Idaho. They’re in Montana. And they look nothing like this.

It was 20 years ago this month that I posted my first video to YouTube. I was an early adopter; at the time it was still a somewhat obscure website. youtu.be/s5ZSvTfYYJQ
I remember first encountering the Society of St. Pius X when writing about Mel Gibson’s absurdly antisemitic The Passion two decades ago. The hate generated by the bastions of white supremacy never dies out. dneiwert.blogspot.com/2004/02/mel-...
Talk about a war on history and memory.
Aaron RuparTrump: "I even had a conversation with Theodore Roosevelt. I said, 'What do you think about the Panama Canal? Do you consider that your greatest achievement and how do you feel about the fact that the Democrats gave the Panama Canal away to Panama for $1?'"
I made some tweaks to the new edition of 'Strawberry Days' to honor the permanent installation of the 'Never Again Is Now' mural on the Bellevue College campus. Hoping to have some events around its republication soon, after being out of print for 15 years. www.barnesandnoble.com/w/strawberry...
It’s increasingly unlikely that we will survive this presidency.
Alt National Park ServiceTrump has now rolled back fishing protections in every U.S. Marine National Monument, opening millions of acres of previously protected ocean waters to commercial fishing. The move threatens critical habitat for whales, sea turtles, sharks, coral reefs, and other marine life.
I’m sure it’s just a coincidence that the ”centrist” pundits telling Democrats to compromise on abortion are the same former progressives (see, besides Jilani, Greenwald and Lee Fang) who regularly criticize antifascists and soft pedal white nationalists.
Rebecca Solnit@jessicavalenti.bsky.social "I’ll take the time to explain, again, why calls for Democrats to move to the right on their most popular political issue are fucking stupid. But first, I have to say this: I am so tired. I am tired of having to defend my humanity and the humanity of other women."
This is just brilliant. There’s probably no greater single threat to democracy posed by the MAGA phenomenon than the epistemological crisis inherent in the completely groundless claims of election fraud. In no small part because it provides them cover for engaging in such fraud themselves.
Kate StarbirdIf you’ve been following the “rigged election” rumors from the CA primary and thinking, gosh, haven’t we seen this all before? Well, you’re right! Sounds like you’d be competitive in a friendly and frenetic game of “Rigged Election” Bingo! uwcip.substack.com/p/rigged-ele...
Sow the wind, reap the whirlwind, mothafucka.
Andy CraigMike Lee is not just rage-tweeting about the DoD's new religion codes, he's now in a full meltdown manically replying to people demanding they read the Book of Mormon because he can't shrug off how his far-right brainworms X feed was full of people saying "lol Mormons aren't Christians, suck it."
So very sad today: My friend and former colleague Anthony Bolante passed away from complications due to a stroke. He was a prince among men: kind, generous, unbelievably talented. He radiated positive energy. www.bizjournals.com/seattle/news...
I stoutly supported @gluesenkampperez.house.gov in the 2022 and 2024 elections, as she was a bulwark against far-right ideologue Joe Kent. I have peeled back to neutral non-support as she has moved rightward. But now she is my enemy and I will work for her defeat. open.substack.com/pub/erininth...
A little explainer about making 'Strawberry Days' available again. open.substack.com/pub/davidnei...
After being out of print for the past decade, my book about the incarceration of Japanese Americans in World War II -- and moreover about anti-immigrant racism and the foundations of modern suburbia -- is now available again through Barnes and Noble Press. www.barnesandnoble.com/w/strawberry...
