If your research paper is something like “we gave these students a vanilla chatbot-style LLM with no training and they did worse on this test than those who didn’t have that,” I am unimpressed.

This tech is trash. Absent a speech-denying disability, what other ethical use can there be for this kind of “digital avatar”? Gross. Bonus points for the absolutely unhinged grin.

Outside of LLMs making it possible to interface with computers via natural language, have they done anything else significant ? Not that they need to (as that single thing is crazy useful), but why act like they are in line to remake the world?

I think one of the main reasons LLMs work well for coding is because you can bootstrap your way forward with version control. This is great for programming. It is also not possible for most of human endeavor.
