The new CHATBOT Act doesn’t just require parental permission for teens to use AI. It requires AI companies to build monitoring systems that store and analyze entire conversations, creating new privacy risks for entire families. www.eff.org/deeplinks/2...

This is a wild exchange if you read Gonzales, the leading 2nd Cir. case on reporters’ privilege. The entire case is about the government trying to get the phone records of NYT journalists…the same thing the gov is trying to do now. What do you mean you didn’t know about that aspect of it 😂

Anna Bower

Earlier this month, a New York Times journalist was watching “The Sheep Detectives” when FBI agents showed up at his door with a subpoena. Last week, a judge had some questions. It didn’t go well for the Justice Department. My dispatch from the NYT hearing: www.lawfaremedia.org/article/the-...

The KIDS Act is not just some benign form of digital “carding.” If passed, the bouncer at the door is an online entity capturing and storing personal data from users who simply want to access legal, First Amendment-protected content on the internet, EFF’s @irmck.bsky.social wrote for @coindesk.com.

What does a court case about drivers reporting police checks have to do with social media and freedom of speech? Potentially, a lot. A new ruling of the EU's top court risks pushing platforms to monitor what we say online. www.eff.org/deeplinks/2...

I mean, I understand being a moderate if that moderation is attached to a set of values and beliefs beyond "moderation is good." In fact, there are several individual issues about which I have political middlin' views (as measured by SF standards)! But moderation for moderation sake is empty.

Wurman’s statement is also just factually wrong. Literally every country in the world, apart from a handful of exceptions like North Korea, has vibrant civil society groups who advocate for democracy and human rights. Nobody is “culturally incapable” of constitutional self government.

Anthony Michael Kreis

Responding to @beaubaumann.bsky.social’s post today, Prof. Wurman deploys the same rhetoric used against every immigrant group in America. Is this racist, he asks? Judging whether one can be part of America based on a culture’s supposed "capacity" for self-governance is the structure of bigotry.
