I meant this to be a short post but I do not want to leave things open to misunderstanding if I can help it. Scripture supports itself when quoted with its true meaning in mind but tips over when taken out of context.

Psalm 51:16-17 “For you do not delight in sacrifice or I would give it. With a burnt offering you are not pleased. The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit; A broken and contrite heart, O God, you will not despise.”

Matthew 9:13 ‘But go and learn what it means, “I want mercy and not sacrifice.” (Referring to ritual sacrifices) For I did not come to call the righteous, but sinners.”’

Luke 10:36-37 “Which of these three do you suppose became a neighbor of the man who fell among the robbers?” So he said, “The one who showed mercy to him.” And Jesus said to him, “You go and do likewise.”

Matthew 16:24-25 ‘Then Jesus said to his disciples, “If anyone wants to come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life on account of me will find it.”’

John 6:64 “But there are some of you who do not believe.” (For Jesus knew from the beginning who they were who did not believe, and who it was who would betray him.)”

I find it very encouraging to see Bernie Sanders empowering young leaders and working to build something bigger than himself. It is something few people have the vision and humility to do.
