Trick Weekes helped write some of my favorite games - very cool to see them write comics!

For me, ever since I took this course, part of my answer is that I have to hold myself back from fully investing in a story that's based on real events, because I can get MORE invested in those stories b/c I think about the real people involved. I have to remind myself it's a dramatization.

From the opposite direction, I took a course in public history in grad school, and the basic throughline there is "yep, popular culture is absolutely going to perpetuate historical inaccuracies, so the question is, what are we going to do about it?"

I had the same Star Trek VI shirt that Jerry O’Connell is wearing back when the movie came out. Jerry and his shirt are both in better shape than me and mine. 😀

“The thing that amazes me about Starfleet is how these people up here make you feel so welcome.” —Jerry O’Connell The first text he got after landing the role was from Wil Wheaton and it said, “Welcome to Starfleet, Commander. #StarTrek #SDCC

I have just watched the Philadelphia Orchestra perform the score for Empire Strikes Back and I will emphatically cast my vote for “John Williams is very good at his job.”

Seth Masket

Also, is John Williams objectively "good," or is he just integral to every joyful experience I've ever had since I was 8?

One part of this problem is that too few people in the US have any real experience trying to build consensus or make informed decisions as part of a large group, and so they mistakenly view systems necessary for coordination and management as a form of corrupt manipulation.

Kevin Elliott

This is a great, succinct statement of the double bind American parties face due to the primary system:

When I was an adjunct teaching a philosophy class on Art & Society, one of the books I assigned was Scott McCloud's REINVENTING COMICS, and it was absolutely the most challenging text of the course for some students because they were unfamiliar with reading comics.

Josephine "beckbook.com" Riesman

I don't know who needs to hear this, but... comics, as a medium, is not "easier to read" than prose, and acting like children who prefer comics to prose books are dumbasses is a manifestation of the worst kind of Puritan-work-ethic authoritarianism
