daveapong28 июл., 09:36Yeah, the guess for the atheist percentage is actually correct for the actual religiously unaffiliated percentage.
daveapong28 июл., 09:25I am curious on the actually data on this but judging from the past election results and anecdotal experience from close immigrant relatives, it’s unfortunately too common of a thing (“it’s X group that’s skipping the line and taking our jobs!”)
daveapong28 июл., 08:21The seat would have to be vacant for him to even attempt to challenge it plus Thune wouldn’t seat the appointment.
daveapong28 июл., 08:09McConnell being gone from the Senate for so long benefits Democrats not Republicans.
daveapong27 июл., 19:56I mean, the only entity that can mandate a “binding” referendum is Congress as they are the ones who have the final say. Congress could make PR a state or give them independence today if they wanted to. Of course as a matter of principle it’s best to have a vote which is the process AK and HI had.
daveapong27 июл., 19:42It’s funny how a lot of centrist and leftist pundits don’t want to accept inflation was the big concern in 2024 for different reasons.
daveapong27 июл., 12:03The point is that low trust people would rather believe that the coffee case was a frivolous lawsuit and that airplanes companies rather you die than live to sue them instead of actually learning about the reasons for each situation.
daveapong27 июл., 09:48From what I’ve heard and read, the Malaise Speech was positively received by the public. It just was short-lived because Carter, in his infinite wisdom, immediately fired a bunch of cabinet members, thus overshadowing the speech.
daveapong27 июл., 02:18Good to hear (and I do think everyone has some stake in this outcome because I do expect the DSA to become more and more influential and the next Democratic president’s foreign policy has to not just do clean up duty but proactive in a way that doesn’t repeat the past mistakes of the blob).
daveapong27 июл., 02:09>DSA is not a political party And that’s part of the problem. It aims to be better than the establishment and eventually take over it (already doing this in NYC), no? So better to nip some of the issues now and don’t let it fester later.
daveapong27 июл., 01:30I was talking about potential admission as a statehood, not the involuntary territorial acquisition from Spain.
daveapong27 июл., 01:23I don’t think voluntarily annexation which gives them voting representation in Congress and the ability to chose the president that governs them is the same as enslavement. Either way, I can’t speak them. It should be their choice at the end of the day.
daveapong27 июл., 01:13I’m not sure this is even all that true tbh. IIRC, I thinks there’s polling showing those who live in the mainland are more supportive of statehood than those living in the island. Still majority/plurality support for statehood regardless.
daveapong27 июл., 01:07If a majority want independence, then it should be granted to them. If a majority don’t want independence (which the referendum shows, only a minority want it), then it shouldn’t be forced on them.
