This might not be helpful, but in case it is: I'm on a grant that will produce a high school-level geology module, bc not widely required = scarce course materials/student exposure. We teach field geology through a paleontology lens: navigation, feature recognition, survey decision-making, etc.

Trying to get back to a more regular #FossilFriday schedule... This time, one of the most unique mammals of South America, the sea-going sloth Thalassocnus. This genus of amphibious sea-grass specialists went extinct only 3 million years ago. Just imagine if they were still around today! #Paleosky

June was a very busy month, including an endemic-focused safari in Kenya - Which I hope to share more about some day! The multiple African elephants we've seen got me thinking about the much wider range of proboscideans in the Pleistocene. Cuvieronius spread over much of South America #FossilFriday

Is there an updated list of states that require a dedicated Earth sciences/Geosciences course? Most recent thing I can find is 8 years out of date. Would prefer to not have to keep digging through state learning outcome standards for K-12....

It's Fossil Friday! Meet Eryops megacephalus. This critter, which lived some 280 million years ago during the Early Permian, was among the most terrestrial of the early tetrapods. Spot it in the Hall of Vertebrate Origins! Plan your visit: amnh.link/4bnMbG3 Photo: © AMNH

“Eons: Life and Death on Pangea” combines storytelling and scienceFor Michelle (MB) Barboza-Ramirez and Gabriel-Philip Santos, science has always been a form of storytelling. Santos and Barboza-Ramirez are two of the hosts of “Eons: Life and Death on Pangea,” a new six-episode series from PBS Digital Studios and Complexly that debuts on July 29. The series explores The Great Dying, a mass extinction event that wiped out more than 80 percent of Earth’s species hundreds of millions of years ago. It was never a foregone conclusion that Santos and Barboza-Ramirez would both become scientists and hosts for “Eons.” Santos – a paleontologist, educator, and storyteller – started out his professional journey as a pre-med student, while Barboza-Ramirez – a naturalist and geoscience educator – was a business major and a self-proclaimed science hater.roughdraftatlanta.com
