New at Media Nation: Two cheers for the Mass. Senate, whose proposed shield law would formalize the status quo. #mapoli dankennedy.net/2026/07/31/t...
The @bostonglobe.com reports that the state Senate has passed a shield law. It appears to be restricted to journalists working for news outlets, and it calls for a balancing test. It's unclear how much stronger this would be than the current protections offered by the state courts.

Boston isn’t New York, and we wouldn’t react well if @wutrain.bsky.social were in our face all the time the way Mamdani is. Plus it’s still early in his first term. She’s in her second. #mapoli www.bostonglobe.com/2026/07/29/b...
It was bad enough when I thought the excruciatingly dull Ross Douthat was coming to “60 Minutes” as a commentator. But no. He’ll be a full-fledged correspondent. Not only does he have no TV experienc, but he hasn’t worked as a reporter, either. www.status.news/p/60-minutes...

They could have done worse. But they also could have done much, much better. Douthat is as dull as they come.
Oliver DarcyScoop: I’m told that Ross Douthat is exiting The NYT and is expected to take a role at “60 Minutes.” News expected to be announced soon.
